The government of the Alston League is a Representative Democracy, as is the planetary government itself. The arrangement is on a federal model with each full member world being allocated a number of delegates to the League government. The remaining worlds are under the auspices of the Provincial Department and have no direct representation. At the planetary level these representatives to both the League government and the planetary government are elected in the same way, only the number of representatives varies. |

The Legislature of the League is in theory open to any citizen of any full member world of the Alston League. The number of delegates returned to the Legislature is based on a formula based on the population of the world in question. The Judiciary is open to anyone who is trained and practiced in the law. Appointment to the league Judicial Council is based on recommendations made by the Legislature The League Government is supported by a permanent public service divided into numerous departments, each headed by a permanent department head and a minister appointed by the Legislature. Entry into the League public service is by competitive examination and promotion in the beaurecracy is by merit. |
