With technology declining as a result of virus impact Baleares commissioned a
class of light fighter in an effort to maintain at least some of the worlds
technology. Sadly the attempt failed and eventually technology fell below that
which could build these fighters from new. The Hope Federation which inherited
the Kontos class light fighters found a new use for the fighters as planetary
strike craft and has used large numbers of them in its subdual attempts on
Nakajima.
The Hope Federation is currently unable to manufacture replacement Kontos class
fighters so numbers have slowly been falling. The Federation goes to great
lengths to recover damaged fighters in order to cannibalise parts to keep other
fighters in service.
