The Sparrowhawk experimental heavy fighter was designed to fill a requirement for a high acceleration fighter within the general configuration of a standard imperial heavy fighter. To this extent the project was hailed a success. The Sparrowhawk was capable of 8G acceleration with a reasonable endurance, though not as good as a Revenant. The armament was somewhat greater than the Revenant class heavy fighters produced at the same time. Compared with most other heavy fighters though armour was not as heavy.

The Sparrowhawk is not fitted with a contra-grav lifter, this is not considered a disadvantage for this type, which even in an atmosphere can boast 7G more than almost any other craft.
