The Tsetse class gunboat although built to TL14 standards is an obsolete craft
largely replaced by later designs. Its major quirk was the arrangement of the
gunboats laser lance, which was fitted to a retractable cradle in the crafts
cargo bay. This resulted in the craft losing its streamlining preventing
deployment in atmosphere and also placed a further restriction on the weapons
firing arc.
The principal deployment of the Tseste class was to the Azhanti High Ligntning
class fleet intruders and frontier cruisers. The docking configuration on the
Lightnings preventing the craft from being replaced with the type of gunboat
carried by Gazelle class close escorts.
