Not as well known as the EM-13 and EM-15 series of escort missile ships the
EM-14 Valanquez class still served in reasonable numbers, though not as large
as the EM-13 and EM-15 classes of vessels.
Like other EM classified vessels the Valanquez was designed to supplement the
missile capacity of cruiser and battle squadrons. In this role they were often
assigned as escorts for cruiser squadrons deployed in planetary assault support
roles. Here the Valanquez's three one hundred ton missile bays, each with
twenty launchers allowed a high volume of fire. With the ships MFDs capable of
controlling sixty missiles at a time they also found use in more conventional
space combat roles.
