The Carlton class of light cruiser were designed at the same time as the closely related Breton class. The principle differences from the Bretons was the heavier armour carried by the Carltons and the spinal weapon fitted to the Carltons being a lightweight particle accelerator. The Carlton class vessels were built in much larger numbers than the Breton's and served in all parts of the Solomani Confederation and beyond. Like the Bretons the jump-3 range proved something of a disadvantage to rapid deployment to threat areas, but the somewhat greater fuel endurance and armour was appreciated. It is believed that a reasonable number of this class may have survived virus and could be found being operated both as a vampire and with the newly emerging states. |
