The government of Tleakheh is classified by the Alston League as a Feudal Technocracy. Closer to the mark would be a Feudal Meritocracy. Position in Tleakheh society is based on wealth, not just the total, but how it is generated. Aslan on Tleakheh are constantly striving for new ways to generate wealth. Position in society is thus very fluid, moving upwards when a decision results in increased wealth, downwards when a decision results in decreases in overall wealth. It is obviously easier for those who already have wealth to generate more than those working from lower down. The government via a wealth tax encourages endeavours which will increase wealth on what is actually a poor world. The government of Tleakheh consists of a single leader, this person, male or female, is considered to be the best wealth generator on the world. The leader is appointed for renewable periods of the equivelant of five years and at the end of each period must present a report (basically outlining how the worlds wealth has been increased because of "him") Beneath the leader is a council consisting of representative of the 250 most wealthy/successful, families. It is a requirement that the council members may not be directly related to each other. Again they are in place for five year renewable terms and must justify continuing in the positions by "wealth generation reports." It is also a requirement of both the leader and council members that they may not act on financial dealings which will benefit their own families. The theory being that this both trains other family members on behalf of the family, and encourages the change over of council members on an ongoing basis. Obviously it is a system with potential for abuse, but the Aoiftu Aslan of Tleakheh retain a duelling culture which tends to keep the more outrageous corruption in check. |
