The YZ Ceti system is a binary star system. YZ Ceti is like many M class stars a flare star. The native life of the planet YZ Ceti, which gives the planet its greenish yellow colour is evolved to take the extra bursts of energy but is chiefly of "lower" forms, lichen equivelants, simple animals etc. A number of native life forms are breaking down atmospheric carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen in to the atmosphere.

The system is located between Tau Ceti and GJ1 on the "smuggling" route commonly called the "backdoor." The system has been little explored and did not come to importance until recently. In 2501 vessels of Das Sternum Reich established a small base on Ferrol, primarily to serve as a stepping stone for the Reichs annexation of Beiro in the Tau Ceti system.

The system remained in the possession of Das Sternum Reich until late in 2639 when following a raid by the Reich on Pelayon in the Epsilon Eridani system, Pelayon forces managed to drive the Reich garrison from Beiro in Tau Ceti. The fleeing Reich forces fled through the YZ Ceti system with the Pelayon forces in pursuit. The Pelayon forces had sufficient strength, just, to push the remaining Reich forces from YZ Ceti but did not have the strength remaining to continue into the Reich home systems.

With the Reich pushed out Pelayon forces occupied the abandoned facility on Ferrol.

With the establishment of the Eridani Alliance in 2651 the small colony on Ferrol became a member of the Alliance. The Alliance, as part of the pact began construction of a naval facility on Ferrol in 2661 and currently has a small task force based in the system to guard the "backdoor" against any future incursions from the Das Sternum Reich.
