The planet Perranunda in the GJ 1 system was first surveyed by vessels of the Das sternen Reich in 2490 and was subsequently colonised by the Das Sternen Reich in 2494.

Perranunda was and is primarily a mining colony supplying radioactives to the Reich. The world grow in importance from around 2501 when Reich interests turned to the colony of Beiro in the Tau Ceti system. Trade through Perranunda to Beiro from Wesse, the capital of the Reich grew. This continued to grow following the annexation of Beiro by the Reich shortly after.

In 2638 war broke out between the United Worlds Commonwealth and the Reich. The Reich was unhappy that the Commonwealth was receiving materials from Pelayo in the Epsilon Eridani system, and perhaps being over confident launched a raid against Pelayo producing a war on two fronts as Pelayo came in as a full ally of the UWC. In 2639 surviving remnants of the task force sent to Pelayo made their way back to Perranunda in the GJ 1 system. The war ending in 2640 with a humiliating defeat for the Reich.

As a consequence of the UWC/Reich war trade with the Reich largely collapsed. The annexed world of Beiro and the Tau Ceti system was lost to the Reich and trade through Perranunda dried up to a trickle. The route became known as the back door and became a haven for smugglers and people trying to escape what became a very harsh regime in the remnant of the Reich.

Recently Perranunda has again become of interest to the Reich, this time as a staging post for further expansion. There being five starsystems within five light years of Perranunda that appear to be unclaimed by anyone. With external trade with the Reich still virtually non existant as a result of the war the Reich requires raw materials and looks on Perranunda as a possible hub for future expansion.

The Reich navy is in the process of constructing a facility to service scout cruisers on the world and the starport is likely to be upgraded as part of this infrastructure investment.
