The Andromeda class heavy cruisers are the newest heavy cruisers to enter UWC
service. Primary offensive power is vested in a pair of parallel mounted
particle accelerators. The vessels also boasts extensive secondary weaponry as
well as a layered defensive systems ending with 25cm of crystaliron hull armour.
Production of Andromeda class cruisers received a boost with a recent
announcement by UWC authorities that an additional 8 units will be constructed
to join those either already in service or currently being constructed. This was
despite a torrent of criticism over
the reduction, compared to the older Cumberland class cruisers, of the primary
armament, Cumberlands being fitted with both a 6,000Mj spinal and two 6,000Mj
parallel mount particle accelerators. The Andromedas carry only two 5,000Mj
parallel mount particle accelerators.
