The Mantaray class missile sloop was built in large numbers by the United Worlds Commonwealth, and was the first class of warship to be fitted with a fusion power plant. The surplus power this can produce has resulted in many Mantaray class vessels being refitted for other roles and numerous civilian versions have also been produced.

The Mantaray class missile sloop has now largely been replaced in service with UWC forces. Though some are still found in second line and training units.

The vessels original offensive punch was carried in two twenty-five ton bays, each containing two missile launchers and twenty-eight missiles. Later refits on some Mantaray class vessels has seen one of the bays fitted with a laser system, a proposal to fit one of the bays for the insertion of twenty-five displacement ton modules is also under investigation and a number of Mantaray's with this feature are currently in service to evaluate the modification.

Fuel purification equipment (6.4764Mw) is sufficient to purifiy 700 cubic meters in 6 hours (12 hours for entire load exclusive of power plant fuel) Fuel scoop capacity is 1,120 cubic meters per hour (1.25 hours to scoop entire load exclusive of power plant fuel).
