The Outreach (Batch I) class armoured scout started life as a speculative venture by a consortium of private corporations. The class proved to be a rugged design and popular with its crews. Production has continued with improvements in electronics systems being incorporated as they became available.

A number of the Outreach class vessels have been sold to private individuals and smaller companies where they have proven versatile. In addition both Le Royaume des Etoiles du Cygne and the Eridani Alliance have acquired vessels of this type for their exploration programs.
