The Satyr class of scout was designed for basic exploration of star systems close to Earth. To enable it to fullfill its mission requirements the vessel is fitted with a laboratory.

Due to the fusion rocket main drive system, which has a radioactive exhaust, a secondary drive sytem consisting of a series of Hi-Bypass Turbofans are also fitted. The purpose of the turbofans is to lift the vessel to a sufficient altitude to allow the fusion rocket to be safely fired. If necessary these can run off internal oxygen.
